“Grand
Marnier” Glen and
Gwen Curry and friends.
This
was a Maiden Armada cruise for Randy and Kathy Garon,
Glen Curry, Karen Quinn and Bill Ellis all graduates from the Spring Boating
Class. It is a great way to apply everything learned in the Boating
Class, then to apply it on the water on an actual Squadron Cruise. Cruising
with experienced boaters gives an element of safety on the water. It
also affords new boaters an opportunity to plot a course, check out
tides, currents and weather in real time.
New
friendships were made and old Armada Cruisers re-united. The weather
cooperated for the weekend, the dockside potluck and “happy hour” made
for an enjoyable day of checking out everyone’s boat. The day ended
all too soon, it was a 10:30 depart in the morning to make slack water at Trial Island. We rounded the Victoria breakwater to a mirror like sea. It stayed that way all
the way back to Sidney.
The
following weekend Brentwood Bay held their first hotdog picnic at the Air Museum on Sunday June 7th. This too was an enjoyable
and well attended event.
Coming events are
the Pig War in Roche Hbr. On
July 10th, 11th& 12th.
I can
only encourage you if you have not already done so to participate in
your Squadron activities. Roche Hbr. isn’t
that far away and is a great weekend event. We won the Pig War last
year, let’s bring the trophy back with us this year.
What
do you require?
1). A passport as of June 1st
2009.
2). A Station Licence
if your vessel is equipped with a VHF Radio, RADAR or
any device that transmits
a signal. You can pick up your Station Licence
at Industry Canada on Government St.
3). Check all safety equipment on your boat.
Make sure you are up to-date
with your flares and make sure your fire extinguishers are
compliant
and tested.
The
Armada Cruise to Desolation Sound leaves August 8th to the 22nd
or 23rd. I will be contacting members of the Victoria Armada
Cruise plus other members that have expressed interest in this cruise.
If you wish to participate contact Peter Simpson or I. We will be
booking stopovers soon so we require numbers of the cruisers to guarantee
moorage if you require it.
So remember
to hoist your CPS flag and Squadron burgee, I hope to see the Brentwood Bay Burgee on the water this summer.
