This year was a little different for the student cruise. I had a lot
of new boats and new proctors. It was great to see all of the extra help
as we also had a very large class. We even had one of the students let
us use his boat. To date this was the largest student cruise that I have
had to organize. We were to have twenty eight students, but we ended up
with twenty two the day of the cruise (six dropped out due to personal
reasons). The cruise started off with a little bit of fog. A couple of
the boats had some trouble navigating until the fog lifted. Once coffee
time hit most of the fog had lifted and the rest of the cruise went on
as planned. All of us made it to Genoa Bay by 11:30. We all had some time
to discuss the cruise that we had just finished.
Once again Jeff Moses organized and cooked a hot dog lunch for all that
were there. Thank-you Jeff. Another great lunch!
This year we had eight boats! They were “Senga” & Peter
Simpson, “Dawna Two” & Dawna Burton, “Spindrift”
& Ken + Penny Carpenter, “Lady Sue II” & Rick Callander,
“Safari” & Ralph Libby, Miscamel” & Rodger Hind,
“Sudsy” & Dave Flint and “Gallivant” &
John Maycock. We all Thank-you for cleaning, fueling, and operating your
boats on behalf of the Brentwood Bay Power Squadron.
As in the past, we were fortunate enough, to have the Brentwood Auxiliary
Coast Guard visit us and partake in lunch. They talked to us about what
there responsibilities are on the water and answered any questions we
had. Thank-you to Doug Robinson and his crew.
Thank-you to all of the proctors that came on the boats and helped all
of the students on the cruise. They were Janice Hayward, Len Burton, Ron
Harris, Greg Garnett, Jeff Moses, Chris Gower-Rees, Len Fallan, and Kathy
McDougal. Thanks to Len and Dawna Burton for helping me find some of the
new boats and proctors for this cruise,
Another great cruise and I look forward to the next one!
Cheers
