In order to
operate a pleasure boat, you must obtain a PCOC (Pleasure Craft
Operator Card). As of 2009 any person operating any powered recreational
boat must have proof of competency. The Boating Course covers the
PCOC requirements, which is the minimum any boater should know,
but more importantly, it teaches you how to safely
navigate your vessel in the waters off our coastline. A must for
your safe boating and enjoyment! At the completion of the course,
you will be able to write the exam for the PCOC, as well as the
Boating Course.
Upon passing the exams, you will automatically become a member of
the Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons, be entitled to fly the
flag, and be able to enjoy all member benefits, including discounts
on boat insurance and the opportunity of taking further courses
to enhance your navigational skills, marine maintenance, weather,
electronics, to name a few.
The basic Boating Course offered by Brentwood Bay Squadron includes:
- Canadian Hydrographic Service Tour
- Student Cruise - we put theory into practice
- Fire Extinguisher Demonstration - with hands on participation
- Graduation Celebration
